This was a fun and easy senior session with Heather, her friend and her aunt. I had never been to this park in Stayton before but it is amazing! It has the most gorgeous covered bridge...I think there were three other photographers there that day. :) Thanks Heather!!

I loved meeting with Whitney and her mom...we had an evening session with some absolutely gorgeous sunlight! Whitney and her mom are both so fun, we got some really cute shots! *Even in the middle of the road!

Mini Sessions, Busy-ness, Winter Break and such

*This is a LONG post, but so worth it...lots of good info here! Please read it and check out whats going on!*

Well, I said I was going to take care of this poor neglected friend here, but have yet to do so! I can honestly say that I have a couple of posts in the works and hope to get them up tomorrow and the next day. But for now you get this post...a hodgepodge of info! :)

In order of the title....Mini-Sessions, then Busy-ness, Winter Break and at the end...some "and such"

Last year I offered some Christmas Mini-Sessions and have had lots of requests to do this again. Unfortunately this year I am unable to offer this! :( Sad!! I know...and I apologize to all of you who e-mailed me about it that I am not able to respond to each and every one of you.

Here are just a few images from last years sessions!

As I mentioned recently, I have been incredibly busy! Too busy! But its all good...not only have I enjoyed a lot of awesome sessions with super cool clients (I mean it! I love my clients and I think they are the BEST!) but I have also been working in the pre-school at Albany Christian School while my youngest is at Kindergarten each morning. It is quite a feat to make it to work each day as well as all of my sessions, soccer practice, editing sessions and still having a free moment with my family!

At this time I am not taking any new appointments. If you have called or e-mailed about scheduling an appointment I am booking for April, 2011 right now. I am taking the "Winter" off starting in November-March. I know this is a long break, but I hope to accomplish some large tasks regarding my business, website, logo etc. I can't wait to unveil the changes next Spring! If you are one of my "baby's first year" clients, NO WORRIES! I have not forgotten about you and I will definitely still be scheduling your sessions when they come up between November and March! :)

What else? I have been loving the fall weather, crisp mornings and warm afternoons are just my cup of tea! And speaking of tea! I have recently started REALLY loving tea. I have kinda liked it in the past but lately it is just what I need! I have a new favorite in packaged tea since my favorite loose-leaf tea is no longer available, its called "Perfect Peach" and is perfect with just a little splenda! I think my tastes have changed....I like to think maybe because I am getting older and mor sophisticated or something! (Ha!) More likely because I have tried to cut out almost ALL sugar from my diet and most sugar from my family's diet as well! It is amazing how your tastes can change!

And last....our family recently had some portraits taken. "Your Street Photography-By Meghann Street" did our session earlier this month and I can't tell you how much I love them! Meghann did a great job and I would definitely recommend her if you are in the greater Portland area! The following are not my portraits but rather the work of Meghann Street!

What to Wear

I have wanted to do a post on "what to wear" for quite some time. Your outfit can determine so much for your portrait session. This is not the time to just wing it. 
So what is my suggestion? First, keep it simple. Choose one bold, solid color and then add hints of it throughout the family. A shirt, necklace, hair bow, shoes or tie could all be done in shades of that color. Secondly, layer!!! Layer and then layer some more....okay well maybe not so much that you begin to overheat. But layers are a great way to pull out slight pops of color without overwhelming the image. Third, don't outlaw patterns. Some patterned fabrics in your clothing is great, polka dots and stripes (in moderation). Lastly, outlaw the tennis shoes. If you don't own coordinating shoes for your outfits, consider a barefoot shot, or consider changing your outfits. But tennis shoes are my arch enemy! ;)

From Confessions of a Prop JunkieLayers can help coordinate multiple family members for fantastic portraits.  The cousins in the above photo used vests, hats and ties to fill out the color palette and add dimension.  The boy in the middle adds extra color with double polo shirts in blue and orange and brings pop with a bright green hat.  Notice that the boy on the left has a plaid vest and a striped tie.  Layers aren’t just about color and texture, but about pattern as well.  Don’t be afraid to mix and match!

Read some of the following tips from SimpleMom "Coordinate, but don’t match. This is just my opinion, as I know many families like to wear the same outfit for their portraits.  But in my experience as a holiday photo card designer, photos look better when everyone blends well, but not too much.  To be honest, when I see a photo with the entire family wearing denim shirts, all I see is a sea of denim shirts – not the people.
Avoid patterns. It’s okay if one family member has a simple stripe or a basic design, but too many intricate patterns detracts from faces.  If in doubt of what to wear, go with a simple, solid-colored shirt.

Go casual. Especially if you have little ones.  I love photos that look like the family is relaxed, having fun with each other, and basically like they do most any other day of the year.  Sure, go ahead and brush their hair and have them in clean clothes – but you’re probably fighting an uphill battle asking preschoolers to sit still more than a minute at a time."
